Peter Masiakos, MS, MD, FACS, FAAP
Dr. Masiakos is a Pediatric Surgeon and the Director of Pediatric Trauma Service at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Masiakos has an extensive background in chemistry, biophysics and tissue engineering. He is a pediatric surgeon who is an expert in treating tracheoesophageal fistulas. His laboratory work is aimed at accelerating the development of a new generation of biodegradable tissue engineered “plug” devices, which when applied using minimally invasive or catheter technology, can be used to close congenital or acquired fistulas and foramina seen in children and adults, including tracheoesophageal fistulas, bronchopleural fistulas, enterocutaneous fistulas, congenital cardiac septal defects, hernias, and vascular anomalies.
